Anatomy of Two Book Stand Designs that Work Well

A book stand is a great gift idea for every real book lover. Currently proffered designs range from simple wire creations like the Fold’N'Stow that holds a book at variable angles on just about any flat surface, to the infinitely more elaborate LEVO Bookholder that embraces your book in either a floor stand model or a clamp-on model that easily fastens to just about any table, desk, or counter top. Many book stand models function well with hardcovers, but they also can work quite nicely with paperback books held by book holders like an OpenPage.

The Fold’N'Stow is among the least expensive of book stands. It folds virtually flat and is sold with it’s own convenient pouch designed for easy placement in a 3 ring binder. It may be placed on a countertop for recipe books, or atop any desk, table, workstation, bench, etc. Wire arms with page holders extend from the back plane to secure your book open, and, by adjusting how far apart the arms are, smaller and larger books are readily accommodated. The back of the stand has horizontal pieces that can be raised or lowered to adjust the angle at which the book is held relative the substrate.

The LEVO’s most popular book stand is the LEVO floor standing model, which features a weighted base on casters for easy movement from bedside to treadmill to the couch, desk, table or counter top. Wherever you choose to put it, the LEVO will hold your book in virtually any position. With a bookboard which adjusts in any plane, and coupled with a book mounting mechanism that will hold your book, even in an inverted position, the LEVO makes reading truly hands-free just about anywhere.

The LEVO Desk model is just as handy as the LEVO Floor Model, but incorporates a clamp that safely holds just about any desk, table, counter top, work bench or other flat surface up to 2 inches thick, and offers identical movements as the floor model, without the degree of telescoping movements vertically. By keeping your book or other reading materials up off the surface to which it is secured, the desk model saves the weight and expense of the rolling floor base while conserving valuable work space, since your book doesn’t rest on the working surface.

While there are other book stand designs available, the LEVO and Fold’N'Stow designs have withstood the test of time and stand up well to constant use.
