Pain Management And Possible Treatments That Are Available

By 1way On October 11, 2009 Under Contributors

What are the alternatives when pain strikes. This depends on the severity of the pain, and where in the body the pain is occurring. If the pain is only a mild headache, toothache or a pain where you know the cause, such as a fall or graze, then an ordinary pain killer will normally suffice. For toothache pain killers containing Ibuprofen is probably the best choice, toothache is sometimes accompanied by inflammation in the troubled area, Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory medication and will therefore help to reduce the inflammation. If the pain persists you should get medical attention, as the pain could be the symptom of a more serious underlying medical problem. Pain is how your body tells you that something is wrong, don’t ignore the message if pain persists.

Pain can be separated into two types, chronic and acute pain. Acute pain is usually a short term pain that recedes without treatment, it has no serious underlying medical problems associated with it and normally requires nothing more than simple over the counter pain medication. Chronic pain is much more serious, chronic pain generally persists and is likely to be associated with a more serious underlying condition or injury. It can often start from something as simple as a sprain or infection that eventually becomes more serious, or it can be caused by a developing disease or cancer. Chronic pain can persist for months, possibly even years. As well as a requirement to treat the underlying cause, pain killers stronger than normal pain medication is usually required. Among the most common pain medications include tramadol, ultram and ultracet, with tramadol being the most popular. These pain killers aren’t scheduled as controlled substances, it is therefore possible to buy tramadol online. In many cases pain medication is prescribed with seperate treatments to treat the cause of the problem.

Probably the commonest type of pain we all experience is headaches. Headaches may well disappear without recourse to any treatment, normal pain medication will usually be enough to lessen the pain. Migraine is a more severe form of a headache and can be caused by several conditions. A migraine can be accompanied by other conditions, such as changing moods, light sensitivity, one sided headaches and nausea or vomiting. A migraine may only last for several hours, but might continue for a few days. Anyone with a migraine should get medical attention as soon as possible.

For pain associated with muscles and joints, physiotherapy is often used as a treatment, and can in many cases result in the complete cure of the underlying problem. Electrical stimulation is a sometimes used, sometimes as a last resort. Electrical stimulation interrupts pain signals inside the spinal cord. Acupuncture may be used to try and reduce pain, fine needles are entered at key points on the skin, the needles disrupt the flow of spasms. Fine needles may be placed in regions removed from the origin of the pain.

The main point to observe, is that if a pain becomes serious, especially if it is persistant, seek medical advice without delay, it could be down to a more serious underlying problem.
